[SOLD] BNIB Grand Seiko SBGA011 (Snowflake)

This models nickname in the factory is the Snowflake. It is an homage to small place called, Suwa.
Suwa is almost dead center in the middle of Japan, and because of this, the humidity level is lower than in other parts of the country. Because of this lower humidity, the snow fall during the winter is very light and airy. This allows the wind to sculpt the snow lying on the ground to make beautiful patterns. They set out to create a dial which resembled this light snow fall and patterns. In this, the SBGA011 Grand Seiko “Snowflake” was born. It is a unique 6 step process to replicate the snowfall in the dial. While the most complex dial in the Grand Seiko line takes 12 steps to complete, this “Snowflake” still one of the most intricate dials in the series.

The case and bracelet of this model are made from Seiko’s in house developed and patented “High-Intensity” Titanium. This titanium is slightly stronger than stainless steel, and also about 40% of the weight, making it “as light as a snowflake”.

The blue second hand (and text of SPRING DRIVE) was to complete the winter character of this timepiece. They wanted to give the watch “the cold feel”. This adds just enough detail to make the piece really stand out.

To complete this Grand Seiko piece, they chose their Spring Drive for the movement. It had nothing to do with snow, but was for good reason. They only wanted their finest movement in the piece that represented their hometown. Spring Drive has the beauty and the accuracy to be more than qualified as the right movement for the job.

Grand Seiko Hi-Beat 36000 wins European Watch of the Year

The Grand Seiko Hi-Beat 36000 has been announced as European Watch of the Year in the £2,500 - £8,500 category.

The awards ceremony - judged by connoisseur watch collectors, retailers and designers - was organised by the prestigious publication 00/24 Watchworld, which selected just four men's timepieces as the finest in the European markets.

Seiko’s winning design, the Grand Seiko Hi-Beat 36000, was born from Grand Seiko’s desire to create the "best basic" watch in the world and combines the technical pre-eminence of 36,000 beats per hour and a revolutionary, hi-beat calibre, balance spring, that resists both shock and magnetism and results in a timepiece of outstanding accuracy. It retails at £5,000.

David Harnby, director of Seiko UK, said: “Grand Seiko strives to provide lovers of fine watches with the ultimate in functional simplicity and master craftsmanship embodied in a truly classic style. We are delighted that the judging panel of the 0024 European Watch of the Year Awards has recognised true quality and state-of-the-art finishing, which reflects the remarkable value provided by the Grand Seiko collection.

[SOLD] BNIB Grand Seiko SBGM029 & SBGM031 (SOLD) Ltd Edition

Ten years ago, Seiko introduced a GMT model into their high end Grand Seiko range. The watch has gone on to become one the most successful and recognizable models for the sometimes misunderstood side of the brand. This year at Basel, Seiko introduced 2 limited edition Grand Seiko GMTs to celebrate the anniversary, each adorning heavy doses of the brands traditional blue both front and back.

Both watches share the same 9S66 caliber as found in the old model, but beyond that they begin to differ. Ref. SBGM029 is offered with a stainless steel case and measures in at 39.2mm in diameter. It also sports an exterior 24hr bezel quite reminiscent of a certain other famous GMT. Ref. SBGM031 is offered on a crocodile strap and comes in a tad larger at 39.5mm in diameter. This reference also sees the 24hr GMT ring moved to the inner dial, where it can be found on the older models. Both are offered with very dark blue dials, and in most light will appear black.

Both of the watches have see-through case backs, which exhibit the same blue titanium/tungsten rotor, emblazoned with the Grand Seiko Lion. This rotor is a new feature for the movement, and delivers a hefty advantage in performance according to Seiko. It has high elasticity which absorbs vibration and shock "ten times better" than brass. Either way, it adds a sharp touch of detail to the watch and fits nicely into its Japanese personality.

[For Sale] BNIB Seiko Ananta SRQ005

Ananta. The craftsmanship of Katana. The cutting edge of SEIKO.

SEIKO Watch Corporation is proud to announce the launch, at Baselworld 2009, of a new Elite Collection, SEIKO Ananta.
SEIKO Ananta is an exclusive collection of luxury timepieces with Spring Drive and high-grade mechanical movements, targeted at those who truly understand and appreciate fine watchmaking. SEIKO Ananta is a watch designed to deliver a lifetime of delight and satisfaction, as it is supremely comfortable to wear, enjoyable to use and unrivaled in its quality of engineering. SEIKO Ananta is a watch for today and for all time.

The artistry of Katana
Katana is the ancient art of sword-making. First developed over 800 years ago, the Katana sword is a single sided, curved blade designed to be drawn from its scabbard and used in a single motion. Its legendary sharpness comes from a unique kind of steel and a particular forging process, developed over the centuries, which combines great handcraft skills with the highest technology. Today, Katana swords are still made and prized for their beauty and precision.
 (Image from : www.seiko.com)

These themes of precision, artistry, parabolic curves and sharpness all find expression in the new Ananta collection. The side of the case has the distinctive Katana curve and a three-stage ‘blade’ polishing process gives the case its remarkable mirror finish, as smooth and flat as a Katana sword. The long, graceful curve of the case is made possible by a unique construction in which the case back and lugs are crafted from a single piece of steel.

Ananta. The search for the Infinite
Ananta is a Sanskrit word that means ‘the infinite’. When the SEIKO product development team embarked on this project, they were given infinite scope to build a watch that embodied the SEIKO vision of “the most technologically advanced craftsmanship in the world”. They were allowed to use any movement, or build new ones. They had the freedom to explore any design direction and seek new inspiration wherever they chose. Ananta is the result. A collection that expresses SEIKO’s dedication to infinite perfection.
